Parallel Foundation Course

There are increasingly more Greek students who make studying in the UK their first priority. Some choose to do the IB to make sure they are ready to study in the UK at the end of their school. We offer an alternative programme, the Parallel Foundation Course, which has a number of advantages. First, it allows students to complete the Greek school and thus have the Apolitirion - all you need to do is study on the foundation course instead of going to the frontistirio for panelladikes! Second, the programme is flexible enough to allow students to enter the programme in the final year of Lykeion (whereas the IB is a one-way road starting in the 2nd year of Lykeion). Last, but not least, the programme costs about a quarter of the cost of a typical IB programme - 5000 Euro versus more than 20000 Euro for the two years of the IB. The parallel foundation course commences on the first Monday of October each year (in 2011 the course will commence on 3 October) and runs on two (or three) afternoon sessions per week plus a 3-5 hour session on Saturdays until the end of May. It then resumes on 20 June and runs daily from Monday to Friday with an average workload of 5 hours per day until the end of July. The class timetable is announced shortly before the start of the course.

This course is suitable for entry to a broad range of degree courses depending on the subject selections taken. The curriculum of the programme including the hours per week per subject is given in the table below:
