International GCSE classes in L.Kifisias

Now you can attend International GCSE classes at a convenient new location in Leoforos Kifisias (296) in Halandri. In collaboration with IMS, who offer the renowned Strathclyde MBA in Greece, we offer this ideal pre-IB programme which will be taught by evening classes at the IMS premises in good proximity to your school.

Who are we ?

This is a collaborative initiative between Foundation College, a centre dedicated to the preparation of students for entry to British undergraduate courses since 1988 that was recently awarded the Pearson/Edexcel Outstanding School Award, and IMS a recognised private tertiary education College that offers Strathclyde University's postgraduate courses in Athens.

Where ?

Teaching will be done at the IMS premises on Leoforos Kifisias 296 about 500m from the pedestrian bridge at Filothei with easy access from the Psihiko and Filothei schools.

Which International GCSEs ?

The subjects that are being scheduled for teaching are: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

When ?

You can start in September but we also envisage January groups to suit late deciders. There are two classes (lasting 1:30 hours)  per subject per week. Classes are between 5:00 - 8:00 pm and are taught live at the IMS premises but can also be attended on zoom.

Who should take IGCSEs ?

International GCSEs are the international versions of GCSEs which are English qualifications that students achieve at year 11. They precede A-levels or IB so they are ideal for anyone planning to do the IB or A-levels in their final two years of school. They are assessed by independent examinations so they are an important and reliable part of a student's achievement profile and universities regard them as reliable predictors of a student's prospect. International GCSEs are an ideal preparatory route for students who plan to take the IB to study abroad at an English speaking university. Because you can take as many subjects as you wish, GCSEs are a flexible tool in your preparation for your final school years.

How many GCSEs ?

A typical student in England would take 7 or more International GCSEs. However this would be a tough task for a student who also attends the Greek school. Nonetheless, because the curriculum of a GCSE subject is not very different from that of the corresponding subject at the Greek school students can easiy take 4 or more subjects which represents a rch portfolio of achievement that will later help students when they apply to university. Bearing in mind that one can complete the GCSEs over two years the time commitment to four GCSE subjects is 6 hours per week which is not an excessive burden for an 15 year old Greek student. On the other hard taking just two GCSEs requires a mere 3 hours of attendance per week over two years. (these times should be doubled if someone takes a subject over a one year period)

When and where are A-levels examined ?

The International GCSEs by Pearson/Edexcel are examined three times a year (January, June and October) and the examinations can be taken at a number of centres in Greece including Foundation College or the British Council. Our teaching schedule prepares students for the June examination session but exams (or re-examinations to improve grades) can be taken at any examination period.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are 2500 per full subject. If studied over two years then this means paying 1250 per year for each subject. The tuition fees do not include the examination fees which are payable per examination paper that a student sits ( each GCSE subject envisages two written exams).
